For Photos That Glow - A Garden Festival of Lights
A Festival of Lights gets me in the mood for photography at Christmas time! Obviously its not just me! The numbers are on the rise at gardens everywhere. It shouldn't be hard finding one in a local garden near your house. Of course - Google it!
What is a Light Festival?I love seasonal lights and lots of 'em! But these celebrations could also be fireworks. Some are religious events, like Hannukah or Christmas. But even more, they've become just a fun cultural celebration. They're not only winter holidays... lots of them happen in the summer. And Australia and the UK have even held a political light festival. Trust a politician to grab onto a good campaign idea! All of those are exciting but when a garden is involved, its even better! I say any excuse is just fine!

Here's a preview of the VanDusen Botanical Garden's Christmas event December 2010. A major draw to this garden every December here in Vancouver. Click on the link for more photos and a short video of an amazing show of lights.
The Festival of Lights at VanDusen Botanical Garden is a yearly event. Were you one of the lucky ones to get there this winter? It was from December 10 to January 2... worth standing in line for!
Some North Vancouver friends got me interested in this garden, one I hadn't heard of. I really enjoyed my summer visit so I made a point of fitting in the Park and Tilford Gardens light celebration... small in size but big in the awe factor! Head up to North Vancouver - but in the meantime, click on the link for a preview! I squeezed in the Park & Tilford Gardens event the night before I left for Toronto... a bit tight, but so glad I didn't miss it!
The thing about this kind of festival - it has to be dark! That means, if you want good pictures, you need to know a bit about night photography. Use your camera manual and get to know your camera really well. And learn your basic photography. Then you'll only have to make a few adjustments for night time. Take your camera out and practice and you'll be good to go for the next bunch of Christmas light events.
